The Benefits Of Wearing Compression Socks
Compression socks are used daily by individuals from almost every profession and walk of life; from nurses & doctors to office workers and frequent travellers to athletes. But what's the big deal?
Unlike regular socks, Base Compression socks provide a high level of support, flexibility and antimicrobial properties. These socks have been specially designed and scientifically proven to improve blood circulation, speed up recovery and ease foot strain, regardless of whether you're on your feet all day, or sitting at a desk from 9 to 5.
What are compression socks?
High-quality compression socks are made from tight elastic materials to create pressure on the feet, ankles and legs. This pressure contracts the blood vessels, forcing blood back to the heart, preventing blood pooling in the legs and therefore improving circulation and blood oxygenation.
To provide the perfect combination of support and flexibility, Base Active's European-made compression socks are perfectly anatomically fitted, with left & right socks, constructed from flatlock seams and soft, durable fabrics.
25% Polyamide Microlon: Polyamide Microlon is a very thin eco-friendly polyamide yarn (microfiber) with a super-soft feel. 60% Polyamide: Polyamide is well known for its durability and will last longer than cotton if cared for properly. Polyamide is also quick drying and non-absorbent. 9% Elastane: Elastane is used to increase breathability, moisture-wicking and enable a high level of stretch. 6% Polyamide NanoGLIDE®: Polyamide NanoGLIDE® is an engineered fabric that eliminates abrasion and friction; reducing skin irritation and blisters while wicking moisture away, drying and cooling the skin. |
Unlike the majority of other brands, which are designed with a 2-way stretch, Base Compression socks produce a 4-way stretch to offer a consistent and comfortable compression experience throughout the entire sock.
How does compression benefit me?
According to Nurse Theory, the benefits of wearing compression socks include a reduction in painful swelling of the legs, feet and ankles, a minimisation of varicose veins and venous ulcers and a noticed improvement in recovery time.
Base Compression socks help reduce lactic acid production, improve blood circulation and increase oxygen delivery to the muscles.
The level of compression is measured in mmHg (a measurement used to gauge pressure) and can vary from 8 up to 50mmHg. The higher the mmHg, the more pressure the sock provides.
Base Compression socks are graduated, meaning they offer a tighter level of compression at the ankle (measuring 25mmHg) which gradually lessens the closer it is to the knee (measuring 10mmHgh), in order to improve circulation back up the legs.
10 - 25mmHg is considered a moderate to firm level of compression and specifically benefits wearers by:
- reducing swelling,
- minimizing the formation of varicose veins,
- limit fatigue and aches,
- helps prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
Aside from offering a moderate to firm level of graduated compression, Base Compression socks also offer padded heel and toe zones for comfort and blister protection on the go.
Regardless of whether you're a busy nurse, or have a desk job, Base Active's compression socks provide support and flexibility and have been scientifically proven to promote better blood circulation, speed up recovery and lessen muscle tension.
